A work in progress

Like Jeff, blogging is very new to me.  From the looks of it though Jeff did a great job, and gave me a great example to work off of.  Anyways, for the most part, our group seems to be in good shape.  I am still waiting for my boss to get back to me concerning the merchandise or tickets, if any, that she can get her hands on.  I would love to be able to take matters into my own hands and ask around the stadium, but I guess there are logistics that I am not familiar with, and I certainly do not want to overstep any boundaries. At this point I am grateful that Kelly, my boss, is willing to help me in general.  So far this internship is proving to be a great networking experience.  When we were initially told about the project, using the Patriots as a resource did not occur to me.  While Jeff and I were bouncing ideas off of one another, and doing online searches, it finally dawned on me to seek assistance from my place of employment.

Since we are waiting for my contact to pull through we haven’t been able to do much to the first draft of our proposal.  However, on Tuesday night I emailed Shaun with our first draft so that he could make any suggestions or changes.  Once he gave me the okay, Jeff and I met online and discussed any final additions via AOL Instant Messenger.  Given our time constraints this week, this was the most efficient way to meet our deadlines.  I appreciated Shaun and Jeff’s patience.  This week I had two exams in addition to other graded assignments, and both of them were extremely accommodating.  During our time on AIM, Jeff and I tweaked two of the paragraphs and quickly inserted our ideas for a potential fundraiser.  I am glad that the two of us had devoted a significant amount of time during the last meeting, to creating a proposal; it made Tuesday’s meeting much less burdensome.  Instead of rushing around trying to meet our Wednesday deadline, we only needed to make some edits.

Our group has already selected our community partner.  At this point we are holding off on meeting until I am told what resources the stadium can provide.  As a group, we continue to keep regular communication.  We are all easily accessible to one another in a number of ways.  Once I find out what we are working with we will arrange our next meeting.  Other than that, I am excited to begin the planning phases of this fundraiser.

First Meeting!

Hey Everyone!

Last night Sabrina and I got together to figure out exactly which direction we would like to take this project.  All three of us have settled on something that we are really passionate about, which revolves around helping children achieve their dreams and their goals.  We decided that the charity organization we want to work with will be The Room to Dream Foundation.  This is an amazing organization and I really encourage anyone who wants to be inspired by some amazing people to check out their website at www.roomtodreamfoundation.org.

The best way to describe what this organization does is to say that they are basically Extreme Home Makeover for Children.  The type of children they deal with are chronically ill, usually in lower income areas and less fortunate situations, but it can also range to suburban settings as well.  They find out what the child (or children) is really passionate about in the home, whether it be sports, or movies, etc, and essentially transform their room and environment not only to bring joy to the child, but to create a healing environment for them.  This healing environment aids in their recovery process which will hopefully allow them to one day reach their dreams.

One of the major things we talked about last night was why this cause was so important to us.  We both realized how fortunate we have been in our lives, in terms of having a healthy body, supporting family, and more.  We talked about some of our dreams that we have had over the years, and how important it is to preserve children’s ability to dream, and to do what we can to make those dreams come true.  The thing that really affected us the most is that one of the main wishes of many of these children is simply for better health.  We both felt guilty in the sense that we could not understand why we have been so blessed with so many things; meanwhile, innocent children are hoping and waiting for their health to improve.  We realized the only way to overcome this guilt, is to give back and do our part to help them in their struggle, and ultimately make a difference in their lives.

We were able to get a lot done last night.  We not only wrote a great first draft for our proposal, but we also came up with some ideas of what we should do for a fundraiser.  Sabrina is currently interning at Gillette Stadium, and has made some really good contacts during her internship.  She is going to do her best to try to use some of those contacts, and possibly get us set up with one of the Patriots for a signing.  Other ideas include raffling of tickets, or gift boxes as well.  She is in the process of talking to people at work, so we are still waiting to see what happens (while crossing our fingers!).  Once we figure out exactly what we are doing for our fundraiser, we will be able to finish our proposal, and get it out to The Room to Dream Foundation.

The only minor problem we have had so far is scheduling.  Unfortunately, Shaun was not able to make it to our first meeting.  It is hard to find time where all three of us are available to meet, but it is just something we are going to have to work on.  However, we have brought him up to speed and he is aware of everything that is going on, and is ready and willing to help.  Aside from that, everything is going well and I think I can speak for everyone when I say we are really excited about this project!
