Start
a New File
What
You'll Learn: Now
that you've opened PowerPoint, it's time to start
a new file. We'll show you how to do this Lesson.
In the next few lessons, we'll add text, graphics,
and add slides to this file that you're about to
create.

 |
Click
on File on main menu bar. |
A
drop down menu appears |
| |
|
|
| |
| |
 |
Click
on New. |
The New
Presentation dialog box opens on the right
hand side of the screen. |
| |
|
|
| |
 |
Click
on the Blank Presentation phrase in the New
Presentation dialog box. |
A Slide
Layout dialog box appears on the right
hand side of the screen. These are slide types
that you can choose. Some support text in slides,
others different types of content, including
video, graphics, and clip art. The slide types
are categorized in the New Presentation dialog
by group; note the phrases "Text Layouts" and "Content
Layouts" in the graphic below; each
represents a category of slide types, with sample
slides just below the category heading. By left-clicking
a sample slide icon, that type of blank slide
is created and placed in the work surface. |

|
 |
On
the Slide Layout dialog box, left-click once
on any slide type. For now, ignore the gray down
arrow that may appear when you place your mouse on
the icon. |
Notice
that the slide type name is shown in a small popup.
In the example below, this says Title and Text, indicating
that you are about to create a slide in which you
can type a Title (across the top) and some text (in
the body of the slide). As the slide thumbnail shows,
this text will actually be bullet text. |
| |
|
|
| |
| |
 |
Click
on the title slide icon in Slide Layout dialog
box. |
A
blank slide will appear with a place to add a title
and a sub-title.
In the
next step, we'll add a background color to this
slide.
