Instructional
Technology Experience
I have regularly used technological resources since I arrived at Providence
in 1974. Currently I am using Angel and have been preparing powerpoint presentations
instead of slides for my classes in history and Honors DWC.

Project Info
Equipment
use in the Future: I will
continue to use the equipment to either
update materials in courses and to provide assistance
to others in my department who may wish to do the same.
Start Date: May of 2003
End Date: May of 2004
Milestones/Deadlines: September
1 have some finished
products for use in
the fall semester;
December 20 complete
some materials for
use and trial in the
spring semester. May
of 2004 complete and
refine all presentations.
Deliverables
Angel Course: Students will be able
to access and respond
to the
presentations developed
outside of class through
Angel. Students will
be able to
understand and appreciate art and music better by encountering
a less static approach to the presentation of the materials.
Change
in Practice: It would enable me
to make the story of history come
alive by using resources that I have never used before
and which together can recreate the past in a more vivid
and powerful way.
Paper/Article: I
would like to prepare an article for
the Journal
The History Teacher. That journal would
be interested in new approaches to the
teaching of history and history-related
subjects. (Referred)
Training, Support Requested
Audio
Software:
Sound Forge and
Video Software (Premiere)
Primary Objective
The primary
objective is
to develop
a multimedia
approach using
audio, video,
and text in powerpoint format in art, music and history
lessons for
Honors DWC
especially.
I intend to
use them in
class and to
use angel as
a resource
for students
to access and
respond to
these presentations
outside of
class.
Assessment Plan
Adopting the method I propose will augment my pedagogy by allowing me to provide
a deeper experience of history than word or even static picture alone could
convey. I would use both surveys and focus groups to determine if student response
to the presentations is positive. Because I have taught with colleagues in
Honors Western Civilization before, I would ask them to compare and contrast
the effectiveness of this approach with my former techniques. Student response
to art and music questions using the new format should exhibit a deeper understanding
of the material than in previous years.
