PC's Instructional Technology Development Program

The Instructional Technology Development Program (ITDP) exists to support experienced and inexperienced Providence College faculty, across all disciplines, in their efforts to independently incorporate instructional technologies into coursework in order to improve student learning. We provide the following services: individual consulting, group workshops, and the provision of online training and support materials.

ANGEL Tips & Tricks – 1 hour

Wednesday, May 20
12:00 noon - 1:00 pm

or

Thursday, May 21
10:00 am - 11:00 am

Have you ever wondered if there is an easier way to do something in ANGEL? Or if something is even possible? Spend an hour with me and you’ll learn about storing files in the LOR for reuse in future courses, adding a Turnitin dropbox for student paper submissions, how to check what students are looking at in your course, and how to customize the look of your course. Bring your questions as this will be an interactive session.

ANGEL Gradebook – 1 hour

Wednesday, May 20
1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

or

Thursday, May 21
11:00 am - 12:00 noon

The ANGEL gradebook can be confusing, but our students have spoken; they like to track their progress online in ANGEL. Come to this session and learn how to set up your gradebook correctly the first time. Bring your syllabus with you and you’ll leave with a fully functioning ANGEL gradebook.

ANGEL Quizzes & Surveys – 1 hour

Wednesday, May 20
2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

or

Friday, May 22
10:00 am - 11:00 am

The quiz tool has been used for everything from a quick “are they getting it?” quiz to a full-blown final exam. Surveys have been used for mid and end of semester feedback from students to polling groups of students across campus. The tools are powerful and can save you time with auto-grading and auto-calculating features. In this session we’ll create a both a practice quiz and survey so you’ll you get a feel for the types of questions the tools can handle and know how to create your own after the session.

CTE/ITDP Lunch

Thursday, May 21
12:00 noon - 1:00 pm

Location: CTE in Feinstein 304

Join Dr. Laurie Grupp and Siobhán Ross for casual conversation over lunch about teaching with technology.

The lunch will be in the Center for Teaching Excellence, Feinstein 304.

Using Wikis for Collaborative Projects

Thursday, May 21
1:15 pm - 2:00 pm

or

Friday, May 22
12:00 noon - 1:00 pm

A wiki is a website with text, pictures and video that a group of people create together without needing coding skills. PC faculty are using wikis in disciplines as varied as Social Work, Biology, Political Science, Theology and Management on projects that are just as varied. In this workshop you’ll see several very different examples to give you ideas about how you might use wikis in your course and hear from students who are using wikis in place of more traditional assignments.

PowerPoint: Drawing Tools & Printing Options – 1 hour

Thursday, May 21
2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

PowerPoint has many multimedia options which makes it ideal for bringing pictures and maps into your classroom. We will use the drawing tools and custom animations to highlight specific areas of a slide for emphasis. We’ll also look at ways to save your presentation before adding it to ANGEL to reduce the amount of paper students use when printing.

Prerequisite: Basic knowledge of PowerPoint.

Clickers: What are they? What are some ways to use them? – 1 hour

Friday, May 22
11:00 am - 12:00 noon

The Personal Response System (PRS, also  known as “the clickers”) allow you to poll your students on-the-fly or with prepared questions in PowerPoint. Getting the blank stare? Ask a question that all your students have to answer so you know they are getting it (but just ate lunch) or not getting it. Want to prepare students for standardized industry tests? Use test questions on a regular basis. Answers appear anonymously and students can gauge their understanding of course material against others in the class. As the instructor you can privately review each student’s responses to award participation and preparation points or counsel a student before it’s too late.
